LASER CORRECTION OF MYOPIA, HYPEROPIA, PRESBYOPIA, AND ASTIGMATISM

Laser technology has been in use worldwide for many years now, with methods that are constantly evolving. Technological advances have enabled us to perform refractive surgery using lasers at every stage, reducing errors that can result from human intervention and minimizing the complications that used to occur. Additionally, the procedure and recovery time are now faster.

This procedure is not performed solely for cosmetic reasons. It resolves serious daily difficulties faced by people who wear glasses or contact lenses on a permanent basis. Furthermore, it reduces the risk of recurrent infections from contact lenses and eliminates the difficulty of switching between glasses in bright light (sun) and darker environments, and vice versa. The widespread adoption of this technology makes it more accessible to patients, who also benefit from an improved quality of daily life as well as savings on the cost of glasses and contact lenses.

Finally, for very high myopia exceeding 5–6 diopters, laser surgery is more strongly recommended because a patient in this category will never be able to achieve 100% vision with glasses. Laser surgery can correct all refractive errors (myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism, and presbyopia), and there are rarely any contraindications that would make a person unsuitable for this procedure. The most technologically advanced method used worldwide today, and considered the most sophisticated, safest, and fastest, is Femtosecond LASIK. It is also important that the physician be trained in this technology.

The widespread adoption of this technology makes it more accessible to patients, who also benefit from an improved quality of daily life as well as savings on the cost of glasses and contact lenses. It is also important that the physician be trained in this technology.

The procedure

• The procedure is quick and painless. It takes about 15–20 minutes on average.
• The patient returns home shortly after the procedure, with their eyes open.
• People return to their daily activities early in the morning.

What should you do after the procedure?

The doctor will prescribe eye drops to be used over the next few days. (A combination of antibiotic and cortisone eye drops every 2 hours for the first 3 days and 3–4 times a day for the following 8 days. Artificial tears should be applied 4–5 times a day continuously.)

What to watch out for after the procedure

For the first 24 hours, the patient should not rub their eyes, and for the first 10 days, they should be careful to avoid dust and contamination. They may bathe the following day with their eyes closed. Starting the next day, they can resume their normal activities (depending on their profession).

How you might feel after the procedure

After the procedure, you may experience some discomfort, such as dryness or a foreign body sensation in the eye, but your vision will gradually begin to clear up after the first 4 hours. Also, during the first few days, lights may appear haloed (with a ring around them) at night, but this gradually diminishes.

Financial Arrangements & Postoperative Examination

Payment for the procedure must be made on the same day as the procedure for accounting purposes. The price consists of two parts: the clinic’s fees and the doctor’s fee. The cost of the procedure includes 3 follow-up visits, unless the doctor decides otherwise. You may also use a credit card for payment
if that is more convenient for you.
